    2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

    The K.L.E.O. Community Family Life Center is an official site of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, and there will be free food–including fruits, vegetables, and meats–available to all. Come with a cart (or two!) to take free food home to your family.

    The food pantry will take place on the first Wednesday of every month, from 2:00-5:00p.m.

    K.L.E.O. is located at 119 East Garfield Blvd, Chicago IL 60637.

    The 86th Annual Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic

    10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

    The Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic was begun by Chicago Defender’s newspaper founder, Robert S. Abbott, in 1929 as a way for him to show his appreciation to the newspaper’s paper boys. Always held on the second Saturday of August, it has developed into one the City’s premier Back-to-School event. It’s starts at 39th & King Drive, from 10 am – 6 pm. This Annual Parade will be televised on WLS-TV as well as nationally on WGN-TV and viewed by over 25 million viewers.The focus of the parade is education and sounds the clarion call for “Back to School” to our children, and continues to be the betterment of Chicago’s youth.

    Many celebrities, stars of stage and screen, entertainers and elected officials are participants in this parade. However, the real stars of the Bud Billiken® Parade and Picnic are the hundreds of local and out of state bands, drill teams, dance teams, car clubs and the like. At the end of the parade’s route in Washington Park is the After Parade Activities. The Bud Billiken Parade and festivities are always free to the public and includes local entertainment, food, music, free give-a-ways and more! Hope to see you there!

    God’s on the Block Health Fair and Block Party!!

    10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

    The Greater Institutional A.M.E. Church will host its annual block party for Chatham families on Saturday, August 15, 2015.

    The “God’s On The Block” event runs from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the church, 7800 S. Indiana Ave. Food, music, games and youth activities, such as basketball, will be available.

    Walter Johnson Jr., pastor of the church, said he encourages local families to come out and socialize with church members and fellow neighbors.

    The 24th Annual Fourth Ward Health and Housing Fair is a FREE event located at Martin Luther King Jr. High School, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2015. Services include blood pressure checks, vision screenings, dental screenings, hearing screenings, as well as back-to-school physicals for children K-8.

    K.L.E.O. Food Pantry!!

    2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

    The K.L.E.O. Community Family Life Center is an official site of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, and there will be free food–including fruits, vegetables, and meats–available to all. Come with a cart (or two!) to take free food home to your family.

    The food pantry will take place on the first Wednesday of every month, from 2:00-5:00p.m.

    K.L.E.O. is located at 119 East Garfield Blvd, Chicago IL 60637.

    Fourth Annual Diabetes Cook-Off Competition!!!

    Join Us at our Fourth Annual Diabetes Cook-Off!

    In observance of National Diabetes Month, The Improving Diabetes Care and Outcomes on the South Side of Chicago hosts the 4th Annual Diabetes Cook Off Contest on November 14, 2015 at the Washburne Culinary Institute located at 740 West 63rd St, Building U, on the South Side of Chicago. Twelve amateur cooks will share their best diabetes-friendly, healthy recipes for a grand prize of $500 cash and many other great prizes! Come out to support your favorite semi finalist-amateur cook or just be be a part of the audience.
